I have had NO writing time lately. I miss it. After the wedding, we decided to PURGE the house big time of all of the extra stuff we had accumulated, and the stuff we never got rid of when we moved in together four years ago. So I have spent the better part of the past three days in my garage going through stuff and making boxes of stuff to Freecycle. If you have never used Freecycle, you are seriously missing out. I love that I don’t have to throw stuff away, and that others can find a use for stuff I now consider junk. Plus, they have to come haul it away. If you are sick and tired of garage sales, this is DEFINITELY the way to go. You won’t get any $$ but most of the time I am just happy to be rid of it, and I don’t care what they do with it.

For those that HAVE freecycled before, I have one annoyance, and I am hoping someone can help me understand. So I try to list in batches. Not necessarily “themed” items, but I will list maybe 5 things at the same time (not the same email).

For example:
Offer: Box of VHS videos
Offer: Box of girls clothing sz 6
Offer: Men’s Shoes sz. 13
Offer: 1 Box of Toddlers toys
Offer: Box of pet toys

(only two of these are things I’ve listed btw) haha
Anyway, can someone explain to me why people feel the need to try and gobble up everything. And I get annoyed by the ones that say,
“…and please, I will take anything else you might have that you haven’t listed yet.”

The sob stories are annoying too. And the people that snag stuff up just to give it away to a church or something else. I don’t get it. I mean, honestly, I don’t care what they do with it afterward, but I truly chose Freecycle because I like the idea of someone else using what my 5 kids can’t use anymore, or what our household has outgrown.

I usually take the person who’s email grabs me most. It’s not the sob stories at all, but often (as a writer) I tend to go with the person with better sentence structure than, “I’ll take this.” and then the next item, “..and this”. I mean seriously!

I get that of the five items I described above, someone in a family could probably use all five things, but I had some pretty crazy items listed in my batches in the past few days, and there are a handful of people that keep trying to get everything or darn close to everything.

Have you had this issue? Do you ever choose those people?

I don’t mind giving multiple items to one person, but when it seems like every time I list a couple of things they are trying to grab all of it… well it just gets annoying and I tend to ignore the person.

Thoughts?
