NaNoWriMo MeMetastic(ness) Day 25 & Day 26
Day 25 & 26 of my MeMetastic(ness) NaNoWriMo deal I’m doing. I’m pairing days up because I started it late.
If you want to see what I’m posting each day, go here.
Day 25 –What are the names of at least two of your main characters? How did you choose their names?
I thought we did this already. Carlyn is my main female character – I have changed her last name four times since starting, so I’m refraining until the end. There is a reason it matters.
Keith Wentworth is my main male character.
Day 26 –Was any research involved (historical or otherwise) in your NaNo prep?
Yes, always. Since I like to try to stay true to locations, I try to research and find out accurate information about the area. I needed to do some research on Atherton, California before I wrote this book. I also needed to visit some local places around me that are being used in the story as different places. I like to have something to go off so that I can feel what it’s like to be there.

NaNoWriMo MeMetastic(ness) Day 23 & Day 24
Day 23 & 24 of my MeMetastic(ness) NaNoWriMo deal I’m doing. I’m pairing days up because I started it late.

Day 23 –Do animals play any part in your story? If so,how do they add to it?
No. Well, I mean there is reference to one, but no.
Day 24 –Is religion featured in your novel at all? If so,which ones? If it’s/they’re your own creations, describe it/them and how it/they play(s) a part in your characters’ lives.
A little. Not really. It’s a brief mention of church twice in the story. I try to stay away from details when it comes to that stuff, making my books appealing to all audiences. Neutrality people, neutrality. That’s what it’s called.

Day 21 –With about 10 days left to this arguably traumatic experience, what are your plans and goals for your novel, should you successfully complete it?
Finish it, because 50,000 is not the end. Edit it and shop it around with the hopes of having it published.
Day 22 –If you’ve participated in or won NaNo before, what happened to your other novel efforts? Still in the revision process/querying publishers/scrapped it immediately/etc.
Most of them are in some stage of editing. One is finished and I am querying publishers.

NaNoWriMo MeMetastic(ness) Day 19 & Day 20
Day 19 & 20 of my MeMetastic(ness) NaNoWriMo deal I’m doing. I’m pairing days up because I started it late.

Day 19 –Which authors or books have inspired your own writing the most, and why?
Jodi Picoult is one of my favorite authors of all time, mostly because she takes real life issues and weaves amazing stories around them. She has a beautiful storytelling “voice” and I’m always eager to turn the page and find out what’s next.
I cannot list a YA author that has influenced me, because there are far too many. I love Lauren Oliver, Denise Jaden, Elizabeth Scott, Lisa Schroeder… and on and on. If I didn’t mention you, its only because there is not enough time for me to keep listing.
Day 20 –If you could meet one fictional character from any book you’ve ever read, who would it be,and why?
Holden Caulfield. His misguided, exceptionally awful outlook on life and the things he’s seen, makes me want to befriend him. I want to be there for him, show him the brighter side of life, that things aren’t always so awful and show him things he doesn’t know. Plus, it’s my favorite book and he’s just a cool character.

Day 18 –Who is the antagonist in your novel? What drives their actions?
The antagonist in my novel is the brother, Keith. The thing is, he isn’t actually a bad guy in fact, he never really comes across as a bad guy, only throws a lot of curves and problems at Carlyn. All things she handles beautifully of course in his eyes, meanwhile she is facing her own turmoil.
If we’re looking for bad guy antagonists, they would have to be the parents “sort of” and then her Grandmother.

Day 16 –At around the half-way point,it bears mentioning that most of us wrimos have other obligations beside simply hitting that elusive word count. What else do you have going on in your life (work, school, children, neurotic pets, etc.),and just how much are you shafting it to win NaNo?
Again, I mention I have five kids. So their daily life is pretty hectic which of course, rolls over to involve me. We are involved in a Fife & Drum Corps. so we have a lot of activities and practices through that. I have Thanksgiving in a couple days and today is Melissa’s 14th birthday. Lots of stuff surrounding all this. I still do it though. I love every single moment of it.

Day 15 –Do any of your characters have a disability or mental illness? If so,how does that affect their development throughout your story?
None of the main characters have a disability or mental illness. There is a mental illness involved with the father of the story, but he is only mentioned along the way, not actually involved in the story. Also, the grandmother who does play a part at the start of the story has cancer and does pass away around chapter two-ish.

Day 14 –Is the sexuality of your characters a large part of your novel’s story? If so,are there characters who deviate from the heterosexual “norm”? In what way?
No. Sexuality does not play an important role in my novel unless you count the fact that it’s a story about a brother and a sister. I assure you, there is no sex involved and nobody deviates from the “norm”.

NaNoWriMo MeMetastic(ness) Day 13
Day 13 of my MeMetastic(ness) NaNoWriMo deal I’m doing.
If you want to see what I’m posting each day, go here.
Day 13 –Name a male character from your novel. Describe him through the point of view and words of the female character you introduced in question 3 (if they never interact, pick another female character).
Keith. Keith isn’t so simple. I think he’s my brother.
I don’t know what in the world to think of him. He’s 24, handsome and a giant pain in the butt. He needs a haircut, his blonde hair is too long, he dresses like he’s going to the office everyday and doesn’t seem to know what it’s like to just hang out. He’s cocky and arrogant at times and a major control freak judging by some of the things he has already gotten mad at me for.
But… when he looks at me with those piercing sky blue eye, I can see into his soul, and all I want to do is trust him. I can read the unconditional love he has for me, he doesn’t judge even when I mess up or when I do something silly. I can see the hurt and pain in his eyes and his need for me to trust him, to believe him and to love him.
The biggest problem is, that if he truly is my brother, my whole life has been a lie. The perfect family I remember was not a perfect family and in fact, there appears to be many secrets that have been kept and many lies told. This causes conflict between Keith and I continuously. He doesn’t have the answers I need to trust him, and I don’t have the answers he needs to understand how this all happened.
So this windy, crazy, messed up journey I have been on has turned out to be to find my brother. All those clues? Yep, they’ve led me to him. So what do I do now?
