About Nicole

Hey, thanks for stopping by my blog. I am Nicole Humphrey Cook, author, friend, mother, wife and yeah… you know all that.

I am a YA author, who dabbles in romance writing and other genres from time to time. As a reader, I truly enjoy YA, so I knew that was where I needed to go. And I have loved it – don’t stop the ride, I’m not ready to get off yet.

I am wife to my best friend, and mom to 5 amazingly awesome kiddos. Sometimes I freelance for family, food & lifestyle pubs, as well as several websites. I gave most of that up, however.

Quick Bio:

I love everything chocolate, coffee, sushi, books, and photography, though not necessarily in that order.

I am a twitter addict, I love the friends I have made on there. I also really love comments, and love meeting new people, so please be sure and leave a comment so I know you’ve visited, and so I can come visit you. I have made some amazing friends via my blog and twitter and hope to make even more. I’m blessed to have such amazing people to converse with about my favorite passion – writing, of course.

However, if you get hungry, my other passion is eating… okay so it’s not actually eating, it’s cooking and baking and I have just began a quest for a “clean eating” lifestyle… and there’s a blog for it all here.

myavatarSo I decided to update this section because quite frankly, the bio was silly. You can get my bio just about anywhere I write, so lets get a bit more personal – shall we?

Let’s see – where to start.

I’m a mom to five (four of which are teenagers). That seems to define me pretty well, even though I have plenty of other titles that go along with that, including but not limited to taxi driver, lawyer, teacher, chef, nurse, therapist and personal assistant (though I’m working on this last one). It’s crazy around here, but I love it.

I used to be a freelance writer by day and a novelist by night. Now I have given up most of my freelance gigs and taken to writing novels all day long. I drink way too much coffee, spend way too much time with my iPod plugged into my ears and far, far too much time in front of a computer screen. I write so much every day, its a wonder I haven’t started suffering from chronic carpal tunnel syndrome yet.

When I’m not being a mom or writing, I can usually be found in the kitchen cooking up some completely from scratch meals because I’m all about stretching the almighty dollar to past its breaking point or I might be found with camera in hand endlessly searching (and clicking) my way to scrapbooking fame someday. I also have a home business (Close To My Heart), where I do spend some time creating wonderful artwork and I seem to be obsessed with blogging as well. Uhm. Slightly. I have actually given up most of my blogs and am focusing primarily on this one.

So, for now that’s about it. Feel free to ask me questions, and if you want to know more, check out the FAQ.

Lynne - Hi Nicole,
I, too, am a writer and found you on the internet while I was doing research on homeschooling a child with ADHD. Are you willing to be interviewed as the mother of a homeschooled child with ADHD? I do not have to use your name (or I can and promote your website!). I am looking for specific anecdotes, tips, and funny situations regarding homeschooling. If you are too busy with NaNoWriMo, I can email you the questions or we can talk briefly!
Thanks! Lynne

Dorothy Bush - Hi Nicole, followed one of your posts and joined the site. Lots of good reading and tips here. I’m planning on doing NaNo this year again. I did it in 2008, then life stepped in and slapped me around for a bit, but I’m back. Would like a NaNo friend. I can be found as Bikerhen.

Miriam Pia - Wow, you are friendly and have 5 kids. I have just one teen. When you mentioned having headphones on while writing a novel, it reminded me of my first experience writing a novel which happened when I was 20 and the thought of getting pregnant or being a mother still terrified me deeply….Although I was thankful to all the Moms for helping make it so that well, we literally have lives. Wow, not a small gift…Big major major present!

I read your stuff on Twitter and found it reassuring that you mentioned that you actually care. Easily frightened I guess.
