A few days ago I put up a “review” of sorts on Uglies by Scott Westerfeld. I went out yesterday and bought Pretties and Specials, the next two books in the series. I couldn’t wait to get started reading and flew through Pretties like it was only 20 pages long. It was in fact 370 pages which took me less than a few hours to read.
Scott, you are simply brilliant. This book topped Uglies by a mile. I loved the first book, but this one had so many plot twists, identifiable and lovable characters, action beyond measure. Overall Pretties was a fast read and I loved it. I gave it to my friend to read last night and she is already halfway through.
This book takes place after they have undergone the operation to become pretty. We get to see what happens then, and of course much like Mr. Westerfeld has shown me he is capable of, he took the plot in twists and turns that I wasn’t exactly expecting.
I will admit, the ending disappointed me. But wait, before you think that was a criticism, no way. I still recommend the book and adored it. I was just sad that it went that direction. I was hoping for a different way.
I did read the small chapter excerpt for Specials and I am definitely interested in getting started. That’s my next one. I’ll definitely review it. But again, Pretties by far was my favorite.
