Welcome!

Hi there, I am Nicole. This blog is simply my little corner of the writing world. I used to own and operate the previous website known as Freelance Writer's Exchange, but my focus changed a lot and I decided to let that go and run with this.

I am a YA & Women's Fiction writer. Trying my hand at my first steamy romance novel. Wife. Mom to 5. Freelance contributor to family, food & lifestyle pubs. I love chocolate, books, photography, scrapbooking & Sushi. Not necessarily in that order.

I absolutely love comments, and love meeting new people, so please be sure and leave a comment so I know you've visited, and so I can come visit you.

Uglies by Scott Westerfeld

Uglies by Scott WesterfeldDude, seriously. Where have I been? I happened to be walking through the library the other day and chanced upon a book titled Uglies. It is a Young Adult book, but regardless it captured my attention (considering I enjoy writing for that particular audience). I brought the book home wondering what had made me grab this “sci-fi” novel that I would normally have passed right by.

I cannot tell you how awesome this series is. The book Uglies is the first in the series and was published back in 2005 (how missing of me to not notice the series back then) and is part of a trilogy with one extra (interestingly titled “Extras”). The entire concept of the series would normally have not interested me in the least bit with its sci-fi twist, however the nature of a world which requires a beautifying operation that all people have to go through when they turn sixteen just caught and held me.  The story unfolds in the world of the Uglies (before they turn sixteen) and is focused on Tally who cannot wait to turn sixteen, get the operation and move to the other part of the city “New Pretty Town” where everyone is bubbly all the time and looks model gorgeous. Of course, through several twists and turns and some rather interesting and lovable characters, things just don’t always turn out the way they are supposed to.

I refuse to give any more of this delicious series away, and am starting on Pretties now. I will update when I’m done.

Have you read Uglies by Scott Westerfeld?
